The AH-1W "Whiskey Cobra" deployed with the U.S. Marine Corps in Afghanistan during 2012 belonged to HMLA-167 ("Warriors" Squadron). This particular aircraft featured special commemorative livery honoring the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Stationed at Camp Bastion, the Marine Corps' primary operational base in Helmand Province, these helicopters flew their final combat missions before being completely replaced by the AH-1Z "Viper" in 2013.
