  • Introduction & Background

KV-2 Heavy Tank (English: KV-2 Heavy Tank). On the eve of World War II, the command of the Soviet Northwestern Front demanded the installation of 152mm howitzers on four experimental KV-1 tanks. The best designers from the KTZ Design Bureau were assembled to complete this project. Two weeks later, the design of a new experimental vehicle was finalized. Initially, the designers planned to install the 152mm mod1909/1930 howitzer, but it was eventually replaced by the more modern 152mm M-10 Model 1938/1940 howitzer. A new, larger turret was also designed to accommodate this heavy artillery piece, which was named the MT-1. Upon official adoption by the military, it was designated the "KV-2," while Soviet soldiers nicknamed it the "Dreadnought" (KV s bolshoi bashnei). Equipped with a 152mm howitzer, it boasted formidable firepower, and its massive hull earned it the German nickname "Gigant" (Giant). As a result, in World of Tanks Blitz (Chinese server), the KV-2's legendary camouflage is called the KV-2 "Threat," while in other servers, it is referred to as the KV-2 "Machine."
